Medication Adherence: connected support with WisePill and Fitbit

A mobile health study pairing a smart pill-bottle (WisePill) with activity data from Fitbit and an in-app education and support layer — helping patients stay on track with chronic medication regimens.

Overview

Adhering to chronic medication regimens is hard. Patients juggle multiple medications, complex schedules, and the day-to-day realities that interfere with even the best intentions. The Medication Adherence study uses a connected mobile platform to make adherence visible, give patients support when they need it, and surface clinically meaningful patterns back to the care team.

What the Digital Trails team is doing

  • WisePill integration — pulling pill-bottle open/close events from the WisePill device into the app for real-time adherence tracking.
  • Fitbit integration — capturing daily activity, sleep, and contextual signals alongside medication data.
  • In-app education & support — modules for medication information, adherence tips, symptom management, and finding support.
  • Data infrastructure — the secure pipeline that brings device + survey data together for the study team.
